soon, i will be starting to work on the body of my truck. for paint, i am leaning towards the ford dark blue. has anyone ever thrown a little metalic flake in the paint?
another thought i had was painting it the dark blue but putting black metallic flake in the clear.
If you hand mix the metalic into a paint, and later you need to repaint a section (due to accident ect.) it is hard to match the paint again. I would suggest using a premixed paint. I have used Dupont to paint ford's and have found a color matches with the metalic in it. Now all I have to do is write down the paint code, and I can match it perfectly in the future. I just did my '95 250, Dark Green OEM paint, used Dupont with metalic. Same color only with metalic, looks great. Good luck on whatever you choose.
Flake looks great, but as mentioned, makes repairs harder. If you weigh out the flake on a gram scale, and blend any repairs, you should be able to make it work. Instead of flake on my current project, I used started with a stock color and made some adjustments. I used Coarse Starflake Metalic instead of Medium Starflake, and I added lots of Violet Pearl to the base blue color. It really came out nice. It also looks cool when I used it to tint the bedliner.
Not sure if my signature is showing up, but some pic's are located here if it does not show up.
