Viper 3000 Car Alarm

Ok Peeps,

I had Best Buy install a Vipor 3000 on my 2003 Ford Ranger 4x4. The alarm keeps going off for no reason. Best Buy sez it is they trucks computer waking up and going through a cycle. Sound like BS to me. Anyone else have had this problem?

Your door triggers connect to the GEM module. They MUST be diode isolated. I would hope that best buy has done this. To test it just roll your windows down and arm your system. Then try opening each of the doors from the inside handle and see if each door triggers the alarm. If only one door does then they did not connect it right. The driver door trigger is yellow/black and the passenger door(s) is gray/red. Use both wires and diode isolate each from the GEM

As for the alarm going off this is a common issue and this is the fix.

The GEM module on the Ranger sends a signal to the dome light about every 30 minutes or so. Some vehicles call this Battery Saver Mode in which the dome light will shut itself off after awhile. The GEM module checks the dome light every so often and this can trigger the alarm. I assume the alarm is triggering after the truck sits for awhile. The way to fix it is to take a 10K resistor and connect one side to 12volts constant. Then take the other side and connect it to the door trigger wire. This will prevent the door input from going into battery saver mode to prevent alarm falsing.

Thanx KC!!!

It was the diodes. They left some out. I had to go all the way to the top at Best Buy to set it fixed. I had to go to the tech to tell him what is wrong. I guess for Bust Buy to have low prices they have to hire inexperenced kids. Next time I am going to pay extra and go with a pro.

Love when I'm right...lol

That was a simple thing to catch too. I use four sources for my wiring info and all of them state info about the seperate door triggers and diode isolating. That was thier error. Glad they took care of you.

Which way does the diode face when you wire them up independently? I have a 2001 Supercrew that I need to do the door triggers on. I think I will have to do all 4 seperate?
Thanks

Help with NC negative door triggers.

I have a huge question and you guys are talking exactly about what im talking about. I am installing a Viper 5704 in my Mountaineer I ran my door triggers with the diodes and resistors just like Dei techtip suggests link here http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/file.asp?ID=930 I have yet to hook the alarm up because that took more time then what I was planning on. Anyway my question is will this setup keep me from getting false alarms when my mountaineer goes into battery save mode? I know it has it because as I was installing all this I noticed my dome would go off after about 20-30 minutes.
