my 76 4x4 with a 360 and a 4 speed would do over 100 as i recall it had 4.10 in back and 4.09 in the front. my 79 bronco with the 351m and a cam was clocked at 145on the highway and my 74 f250 camper special with a 460 will peg the speedo at over 100 and stock except for a carter 750cfm carb. its also got about 300,000 miles.

A bronco doing 145????? I dont mean to call you a liar, but that is almost defying the laws of physics. Not one of the old Fords I have seen has been able to push it to 145, yes I have seen 130 but nothin that fast. I mean there are some NEW Camaros out there that dont go that fast, and an old ford is designed slightly more "heavy duty" than that.

nitro, i appreciate your input. but that was a rounded version of actual radar and mathematical figuring. i dont remember the formula any more but it was something to the effect of tire height*rpm/??????=speed
ive found it to be accurate every other time ive used it so i would have to believe it. and like i said the motor wasnt stock either all i know for sure as i bought it built was it had a cam dual exhaust and a 4v. the actual speed was 143.?? by the math and 144 on the radar.

I have a 1970 f-100 with a stock 2bbl 390 and 3.25 gears and I know it will do 85 with a lot of pedal left. If I had to guess I would say top speed would be from 95-100, but I'm afraid to try. Everybody needs to understand though that speedometers were never calibrated for 100 mph so its always best to use a tach and do the math. Oh and when i get done building my motor it should have about 400hp and no matter what gears I use I don't think 145mph in an old pickup is possible. Gonna have to call bull@#$% on that one.

My 79 topped off about 90-95 mph with a stock 351M and it had to work to get there. With the 351W one morning I pulled onto the freeway about 1/2-3/4 throttle it almost hit the 0 and was still pulling strong and had lots of rpm left before I decided it was a little silly to be driving that fast on the way to work. The truck felt rock solid too at that speed; no wandering or shakes whatsoever.

John,
Would you be willing to chat about a 1969 Ford F250 with a C6 and ford 9" in it? I just purchased it and had a few question, you seem very knowledgeable. Here's my email and I can give you my number thru that.
Thanks

Was a '49 Ford, F-head V-8, three speed, overdrive too. Run 80+ in 3rd gear, but would top 100 in 2nd/OD.
Oooops, was a car, one of my uncles cars, was in the 1960s, scary ride that was too, was on back roads of Franklin County, Mom liked to have killed him over that deal when she found out. Ever see water poured out in a Mason jar cap burn with a blue flame?
Of my '77 truck, I don't think I ever, well maybe once exceeded about 75, just saw no percentage in it. The time it maybe did was in Georgia passing a tanker near Chatsworth. It's maybe seen 70 once or twice as merging onto 81, but 63 is the sweet spot.
