Noisy valve
My E350 7.3 has a clicking sound coming from(sounds like)the right side front. I'm assuming it's a valve in need of tightning. If it was my old 327 I wouldn't think twice about pulling the covers and running the valves, but, I have never been inside a diesel. Is this a project I want to tackle myself, or should I take it to a shop?

You can pull the valve cover, not sure how hard on a van. There could be a worn rocker assy or a valve with a broken spring. If you run it without the cover then cover anything you do not want oiled really well in the engine bay.......squirters.

You can get the cover off an E 350. I have one. But I thought the lifters were hydrolic. You might find something else wrong. But in general they make noise. I thought mine had a problem, but I keep driving and it doesn't get any worse. I think the fuel pumps make noise sometimes too.

You know, I thought about that. When I got the van a month or so ago I heard it and thought it was an exhaust port leaking, that's what it sounds like. It's nearly quiet at idle, noisey on acceleration, and not bad at speed. Sometimes it's not there at all, like on flat ground at 65 mph. If it were, like I said, an old V8 gasser, I'd swear it was a lifter. It doesn't seem to hurt the power, and at idle she's smooth as silk.
I'm really looking for an easy fix, LOL, I DO NOT want to pull the covers in this VAN.
