Speaking of these splits... my truck (fortunately, I guess) has about 30 year old bias ply tires running on these split rims. It's amazing, aside from the slight weather cracking on the sidewalls, they look almost new.
Anyway... although my truck's only got 45,000 orig. miles and the steering's all tight (no play in the wheel at all), it seems to wander on uneven pavement. Will radials fix this problem, or should I be looking elsewhere?
I just hate having to concentrate so much when driving to keep the thing in my lane (esp. at highway speeds).
Tod I call that wandering road walking, and it is pretty common for your year model truck. Switching to later year I-beams and disc brakes seems to help that.

In the still cool hours of the night, you can hear chevys rusting away.

The split rims must be 16". Half sizes are all tubeless tires, 16.5, 20.5, 22.5 etc. If someone is looking to keep their truck original I don't think that split rims are that much of a safety concern. A good visual inspection for rust, cracks, and bent wheels will generally eliminate an unsafe wheel. (Don't ever stand over any tire while inflating, split rim or not!)

Good advice on the inflation safety. Common sense is the best defense. I personally feel quite comfortable using the original split rims on my 67, but these are like new, no rust(see the wanted link on my site), but I also respect anyone who prefers not to use them.

My old rims (split) with very good rubber are for sale, see Ad #10150.
Man, it has been a long time since I heard about 15"split rims my dad bought a 64 F100 with split rims on it had 700-15 tires and I was 10 at the time. that was the last thing I ever saw or heard of till now that had these wheels on it there weren't alot of them put on pick up trucks I think you had to order them special. The one my dad bought was a hiway dept. truck so everything was heavy duty It even had a heavy alternator for the light bar. John
Hey Tod if you goes from BIAS ply to radials it should help your wandering problem some. It will also give you a smoother ride even if you stay with the same weight RATING. It improved both of these when I change my 78-250 over to radials. If your wandering is real bad you might want to check your TOE setting to much TOE-OUT will also cause it to wander.
