My 66 F250 has the split rims (and bald tires). I'm having trouble finding an installer that will even touch the split rims.
My question is: if I go to a junkyard, what years will work on my 8-bolt hubs?
LAST EDITED ON 18-Jan-01 AT 06:02 PM (EST)[p]Most ford's and dodge's.....I've got Dodge rims on mine...Now keep in mind "farmtruck" that these are of the 16" variety, So you'll need different tires also.
So the bolt pattern is still current...any 8-bolt Ford rims will fit? Ideally, I want to find some rims with tires that still have some tread on them. Dad let these get a little shiny before he sold the truck to me.
So you guys are telling him that the 16" split rims can be replaced with 16" wheels with 8 holes, 6 or 7 inches wide from almost any Dodge or Ford up to 1987?
How about some Technical information like:
donor models,
3/4 or larger trucks,
dually rims or singles,
Bolt pattern #'s, etc.
66farmtruck, you should be able to take the old tires and rims, the new tires, new inner tubes, and new rim strips to a commercial truck or farm tractor shop and they should change the tires for you.
This may help until WE can find replacements.
The 16x7s I have came off a '93. A wrecker that specializes in Ford should have lots of them. I checked mine for runout on a wheel balancing machine before I paid. I looked at many different wheels and cannot find one that will accept the '66 cap, though.

Well, I'm making progress. The junkyard found me some rims and tires. I now have more invested in the tires than the truck is worth, but this thing was Dad's pride and joy. I'll never sell it, so I think the investment in the non-split rims will pay off eventually. (Just have to hide the credit card bills from my wife for a while...) The next hurdle is finding some spacers for the back axle...With the grain box, Dad always said that it should have duals, and when the junkyard actually found some dual rims, I couldn't resist. Unfortunately, the truck is at Dad's place, so I can't measure to see if the duals will clear the back springs. The guy at the junkyard is convinced that I need to add a spacer plate between the brake drum and the inside wheel. I want to surprise Dad, so I really can't ask him to measure the distance for me. Oh well, I'm not in a hurry. Thanks to everyone for the help so far!
Well, the snow's gone, so I was able to get the truck home. I tried to put the duals on, and guess what? The rims hit the brake drums even before the studs for the lug nuts touch.
Any Ideas? Anyone want to buy 4 dual rims with good tires on them?
That is a problem with the new drop-center rims vs. the old split rims (the ID is smaller and the large truck brake drums hit the dropped center). Stockton Wheel warned me about this. They do have 16" dually wheels (bring your wallet) for 8-lug that may fit your truck. (My '65 F-350 unfortunately has the old large (7.25") six-lug pattern and there are absolutely no modern dually rims that fit).
Single-wheels without the dually reverse-dish are also available from Stockton (ask for a Power Wagon wheel) and they are very tough with a 1/2" thick center but VERY heavy (40 lbs each!) I think they are at www.stocktonwheel.com.
I have a set of 8 bolt one-piece rims that is coming off my 65 F-250. I found another 4 rims that I am cleaning and plan to powder-coat as part of my restoration.
3 are exactly the same and the 4th is slightly different (can't really tell unless you are staring right at them). You can view them at my web-site
http://www.ford-trucks.net/users/1965f250/index.html
and I can send more detailed pix if you like.
Hit the "Big Blue" button at the bottom for a closer picture of the truck and old rims. The one that is slightly different is on the front left.
If you are interested make me an offer plus shipping. If not not big deal...I will have a back up set.
