Sorry if you have answered this question already I have searched until my eyes hurt, LOL Can the shift points be modified on a 97 with my Superchip getting a reflash?? I have dropped 4:10 gears on my truck and would like the shift points touched up a bit???
You have the same situation I do. It's no biggie, but it might take one or two shots at it to get them just where you want them.
Tell whoever programmed your chip that you need your shift points raised higher. Every time I get a re-tune I have the same issue. Make sure you tell them about your gears, and note at what RPM you get the 1-2, 2-3 & 3-4 upshifts.
Did you change your VSS gear so that your spedo reads somewhat accurately? I'm about 7% off, but there's nothing I can do about it as I've got the smallest (I think, might be the largest) VSS gear available. It's one of those extremes - biggest or smallest, can't recall...
Thanks for the info, O have not changed the VSS yet I have not had the truck home long enough since the gear change, what gear did you go with and tire size? What tooth VSS did you go to?
Now that I think about it, I went with the smallest VSS gear that is available for this year of truck. I believe Steeda had a one-tooth-smaller gear from a Mustang that was supposed to work, but a few guys online who tried it said it wore-out after only a few thousand miles.
I've got street tires, 285-60R18 on 18-inch 2000 Lightning wheels. The outside diameter is about 32 inches, I think (could be wrong about this). Performance increase was fantastic.
Something doesn't seem right, the computer tells the 4R70W on the 97 model year truck when to shift correct?? So then why can't the tuners change the chips to allow shift point changes?
So then why can't the tuners change the chips to allow shift point changes?
They can. At least, they can with a 4-bank SCT custom tune chip. Not sure about the other Superchips stuff.
I THINK it has to do with the 4.10 gears were running. I don't think the factory ECU has a map for this short rear-end, so it's a bit of a PITA to get the shifting down right...but I'm not smart enough to tune my own truck, so I could be mistaken.
Guys with 3.73s and taller (lower numerically) don't seem to ever have this problem. But I've spoken to a few guys online with 4.10s and it seems we're all in the same boat.
At least, that's what I think is going on. I've had several dyno tunes, and I always have to go back at least once to get my shift points where I want them.
