I have a 79' f-150 with a 4x4 and I would like to disable the start only in park and neutral so I can start it in gear. My 70' f-100 sports custom has this device disabled so it will start in gear. Can any please tell me how to do this so I can start my truck in gear.
why on earth would you want to start in gear, they put that on there for a reason not only do you endanger yourself but also the people around you , does anyone here agree with me on this ???????
On my 70' f-100 I have a intake leak and it will die when idleing at stop lights. It is a lot easier to start it in gear than tring to put it in park or neutral. Also I do a lot of mudding and if it dies when I am in the middle of a giant mud hole it is easier to start in gear and continue mudding so I don't get stuck. If I quit rolling I will probably get stuck in my serious mud holes. Thats just my reason behind the disablement.
Only bypass that thing in an emergency, and just to get to a parts store. All it takes is a moment of distraction, mind on something else, to get some one seriously hurt.
Guys I disagree. Both of my 66s will crank in gear. I know that, and it isn't a problem. My red truck with the manual choke is the more likely to shut down while warming up, and I just twist the key and mash the gas when it hits. Once the trucks are warm, they don't cut off anyway.
My 2 cents worth. :-)

My starter neutral switch has been disconnected as long as I've had the truck. I got tired of jiggling the stupid lever, and it was easier to bypass than to adjust. Just trace the wiring from the switch itself until you come to the 4-pin connector usually located near the transmission dipstick handle. Just cut the two red and blue wires and short them together.
