Does anybody have any advice for taking the windshield out of a 66 CC? I already know that it would be extremely bad if I tweaked the stainless trim, so how can I avoid that?
Razor knife. If the gasket is pretty new you may be able to push the lip out from the inside. Difficult but possible if the rubber is fresh. After the glass and rubber is out then remove trim. I am sure someone here has further tips.
Slide the the 4 covers [that trim the gaps of the reveal] clear, cut gasket with a good knife, from the glass side. Lift off the cut rubber & reveal pieces, then gently push out on glass along the top into the waiting hands of a good helper. Be sure to pad your hood & cowl area, a U-Haul moving pad works great.
When you're ready to go back in, either ask if you think you are up to it, or you can get a mobile glass technician to re-install the glass for a few bucks -$30-$35
Thanks for the help. The rubber is shot and has a 1 inch gap at the top that leaks and the windshield is cloudy at the bottom so I'm not too worried about protecting the glass. Of course it would be easier to handle if the glass is in one piece instead of millions of pieces. The part that concerns me the most is the amount of rust damage that may be sitting behind the rubber.
just cut the rubber. Do it from the inside. it'll pop out. I'm hoping as soon as I get the wife's van back on the road I'll have time to redo the dash while mine is off. I still need one of the cover pieces for the chrome gap. Any ideas anyone?
