I have a 2001 Eddie Bauer Explorer went to the dealer asking for pricing on shocks for my truck. "He told me exactly $1,597.00" I ask him why so much because it's a air ride suspension.
My question is that are there a special kinds of shocks I suppose to get. Last month I spent close to $700 on brand new rotors and brakes pads at the dealer. My truck been good since I brought it new I have 56780 miles on it. still running strong but I need shocks keep hearing squeaking noise everytime I go over bumps. Please help for a better price.
re brakes: were your rotors warped and pulsating? Ive got 85K on my 98 xlt and I'm on my third set of replacement front brakes and second set on the rear and plenty of rotor thickness left. Never any odd rotor wear or vibration.
As for the shocks, got me. Do you have a ride problem?

First Time doing both front and back when i bought in my front rotors was cut and my back rotors was gone. The technician. says that I had no back brakes so he replaced them. Far as my shocks every time i go over bumps or a little thing in the street I just hear this squeaking noise both front and back too much money for me too handle.
wait until spring to think about the problem. you'll get squeaks in the winter, I've had a good squeak in the front for a couple years now and it goes away in temps above 50. Also, it may not be the shocks, it might be other bushings or ball joints. wouldn't you be fit to be tied if you spent those big bucks and it still squeaked afterward?
WHY are you going to a stealership for basic maintenance? Even the Goodyear shop in my town, $89 per axle plus whatever else they need to work on...even overbudgeting for cost on that job, I can expect at least as good a job as the stealership would do!
Go anywhere else for better prices. Glad to help.
As for the shocks, Autozone lists $29 versions like mentioned and $69 ones as well. That's for airbag suspension!
If I can get by with $14 shocks from there for my Ranger (they are just fine, thanks), I know $29 minimum shocks are okay for your Exploder.
I'd suspect your bushings. My '97 sqeeks in the rear also , colder temps effect it more. I have sprayed silicone lube on them, which quiets them for awhile. I replaced my shocks at 90,000 with motorcraft replacements, and it rides harsher now. I should have left well enough alone.
