I have decided to go with a 4” exhaust. I have a 2000 PSD F-250 crew cab. I am looking at the MBRP system. My understanding is the down pipe off the turbo is the most difficult part of the installation. Any words of wisdom and tools I will need to make the installation as painless as possible.
The toughest part is getting the old system off. A sawzall works fast!
The DP isn't too bad. Loosening the V clamp at the turbo a great deal helps
alot. I was impressed at how well it fit on my Xtracab 250.
No new gaskets are needed.
Nut
schlinchtemeier,
did you go with the Stainless Steel or alluminized?
I am also going to put an MBRB 4" exaust on my truck as soon as the weather warms up. I was going to put on the Cool Duels and for cost reasons go with the alluminized, my truck is not tall enought to see the pretty SS running underneath.
I haven't decided. From what I've found, around $350 for aluminized and $450 SS. If I plan on keeping the truck, probably will shell out the extra $100
I just had my 4" SS MBRP installed yesterday. No problems what so ever, fit like a champ. I threw tack welds on the clamp spots to make sure nothing moves around, just make sure your distance is good, it was close to the rear shock, but once I slid everything into spot, it was perfect. Use the sawzall, don't fight the transmission bracket, but other than that took about 45 min. to an hour.
I found it helpful to use some of the expandable foam packing that came in the box to wedge around the down pipe near the frame. This kept the dp stable while it was supported by a floor jack. I didn't have any help and it would have been tricky to keep the dp in place while I positioned the pipe and connected the clamp. Good luck!
i used a bungee cord strung through two holes in the framerail under the pipe to hold the downpipe momentarily while i jumped up top to put the clamp on. i did it that way all 4 times i had the exhaust system off.
