Motorcraft replacement vs original part

Is there a way to tell the difference between & original installed part ie fuel pump and later Motorcraft replacement? Is there a diff in markings or numbers? I am trying to ascertain if my fuel pump has been replaced. I have 163 K miles & the pump says genuine Ford part. If it has not been replace it is due. Do not want it failing at 0 degrees in a blizzard.

Motorcraft replacement vs original part

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Sep-02 AT 04:53 PM (EST)]I really dont know if they use a dealer part, but maybe did the older original fuel have metal tag screwed down on them or was that only carberators

Also you might try looking for gasket sealer that might not be factory, or even look at the bolt heads and maybe see if they are a little rounded off or anything might indicate someone had their fingers in it

Motorcraft replacement vs original part

the last fuel pump i bought was only $40 canadian.. so if your worried about it, put a new one on it and be sure that it's gonna work.

Motorcraft replacement vs original part

This is a good question for anybody restoring a vehicle. Just how do you tell if it is an original part, OEM replacement, or aftermarket?
