Looking at a new 06 6.0

I am in the process of puchasing a new truck for the company. I have heard that there have been a handful of problems with the 6.0. I am looking for any feedback to back my initial feeling of sticking with Ford because it has always been the best work truck on the market in my opinion. I haul a trailer in most cases daily and We plow 6 hr runs/routes in the winter in the snowbelt of Ohio where we get about 120" of snow on average in a winter. Down time is the most important to us in our business. especially the snow plowing.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback pro or con.

I will not modify the performance in any way. To me that is just asking for headaches.

Thank you in advance for any input.

No mods no problem imo. Mine has been just fine with no problems at all. One time I did have a glow plug oring leaking. Took to the dealer and they fixed it. I think a lot of problems start with the mods to the motor. But there has been some people with problems and no mods. But there are bad ones no mater which brand you buy!

bpassow, the only real consistant problems that I can find from talking to different ford truck mechanics are those on the 450s, 550s and 650s where they have large tool box bodies, welders and truck cranes and pulling trailors with lots of wt. That's when you will have the overheating problems. I have had a 2004 F-350 long bed psd with a goose neck hitch pulling a 30' trailor with a front end loader and never had a problem with anything than the normal recalls like reprogramming or sensors. I now have an 06 F-350 psd that seems to have even more get up from the factory. I had an error code the first day, but was minor. It was an SBC code for the trailor brakes even though I didn't have a trailor in tow. Heintzelmans in Orlando replaced the master cylinder and brake sensor. I ordered this truck from the factory like I wanted it. It only took three weeks to receive. Lariat with the tow and chrome package. All the bells and whistles.

I just took the leap and purchased a 6.0 this past Saturday. I'm happy with my choice.

2006 F250 Lariat w/ chrome and the 20" wheel option. Got it for $37K + portable DVD player, Line-X, and front tint - about another grand worth of perks.

I have a 06 F-350 XL ZF6 speed work truck stripped to the bone. Lifted w/35's and chiped. No leaks, or drips. Truck runs exellent, and even better with B20. Only run edge platinum on lowest or second lowest power setting. 6,000 miles of beating, work and daily abuse. No drama. Buy the truck you wont be sorry. Low end power could be better, but has amazing power once you are up and running. The automatics are nice too, but lots of drama. To many computers envolved. You will notice the power more with lower gearing.

I have an 06' F-350 6.0,, over 3k miles on it already, picked it up 1/6/06, the PSD has been great so far,,got a mileage calc of 15.2 mpg with around 2 k on it, mostly around 13.8 so far, but it is winter here in CT.

Small issues so far :
Windshield cracked upper driverside corner,,dealer replaced it free.
I sometimes have a slight dead pedal issue when snowplowing and shifting into reverse,,and when this happens,,seems like the tranny slips a bit, truck shakes,,dose not do it all the time, rather strange, has not done it at all with plow off, dealer has checked it,,no codes,,they do know about it,,beleive me!

Dash has a rattle, I can take care of that.
I have a slite shudder on take off,,its a SuperCab, with no carrier bearing.

Truck handles great, rides better then my 04' F-350 V-10.

There's a General Store here,,when I leave there heading home, it's up hill,,My V-10, 6-speed DRW w/ 4:30 gears would get to this certain drveway, doing 60 mph. Now with my 06' F-350 6.0 with 3:73 gears and the auto, I checked it once same hill I was 65 mph maybe a touch more, so it does run good, I just hope the tranny holds up.

My company bought 3 new 6.0 in 03' two of the three had problems no mods were ever done, but the trucks were worked, not maintained very well, and left to set and idile for a long periods of time. A friend of mine has had two 6.0s an 04' and '06 which he modded to the max. The 04' had the Banks 6-gun among other things and the new 06' has Big Hoss Bundel. He just got the power PDA the other day for it. He runs the hell out of his trucks and has 0 problems. If you do your mods right there wont' be any problems caused by the mods. A good thing to do is find a dealership that you trust that has a well trained diesel tech. Alot of BS can be avoided just by having somebody that knows what they are doing working on your rig.

I had an 03 with an auto,superchiped,4" exhaust, went through 2 transmissions in 30,000 miles. Ordered my 06 last Octber with a manual. Been driving and pulling since November,no problems as of yet.Average 16.5-17.5 miles per gallon, bone stock. Hope to add a4" exhaust this spring. Miss the sound.
