Last night I was coming thru Louisville, KY returning back to my home south of Nashville when a Yellow 56' SW sped past me. It was already 9:00 pm so I said hey I will keep up with him. So I ran behind him for about 120 miles and he finally pulled off I-65 to gas up. SO naturally I pulled off to talk to him. Turns out he was on his way from Pennsylvania where he had bought the truck off Ebay. He was going to drive a few more miles and turn in for the night. He lives in Los Angeles. We exchanged business cards and chatted for about 30 minutes. The truck has a 429 with a Volare clip and Fullsize Lincoln 9" with 3.0 Gears. He was running about 80-85 the whole time I trailed him. The sensitive nature of the Chrysler box was the only thing he was working on getting used. I thought it was wierd and nice to find a F100 going down the road. This is his second 56 SW. He told me sold the last for $1200 back in the early 70's. It had a Olds 455. I wished him well, gave him my Mid Fifty's catalog that goes on every trip local or long distance , and told him to stay in touch and God's grace on the duration of his trip and I led him to I-40 West. The route he was going to take back into California.
Cool! I'll keep my eyes peeled for him as he goes motoring through Albuquerque. I'm sure you told him about this site, maybe we'll all be talking to him before too long
It was the normal about Bobco yellow. It has no plates on it. You will see a Temp tag in the rear window. It has a curved roll pan. The offset on the wheels are off as the tires stick almost outside the fender in the back. The 429 engine really has the nose dived in the front. It has a homemade bed cover.
Brian,
I was driving my wife's 99 Pathfinder. It was in the 30's back in my hometown in Indiana. To cold to be driving my 55'. Plus there were snow showers from Fort Wayne to below Indianapolis as I drove.
I talked to Dan, the guy I met, He made it back home Wednesday night. Only glitch was he had to have a pinion bearing and two front tires installed in OK City, Ok. He then proceeded to run out of gas at the Texas-New Mexico border because he raised the Volare front end when he put on the tires which slightly affected his sending unit.

I knew I should have watched for him in OKC. Do you happen to know where he had his work done in OKC? Just curious if I reconize the name of the shop. Glad he made it home alright.
Thanks for sharing that cool story. Like a little kid, I still get all excited when I see a cool hot rod flying down the road. I have seen 3 local Ford guys around town. One was a silver (mean looking) 53, a 51 F1 white walls and all, and a cherry magazine cover 55 at the gas station. I bs'd with two out of the 3 and see their rides alot.
Hope to see this dude on here, I'd love to take a look at the truck specially since hes in my neighborhood.
Tacson, that's no problem. I was just curious if it was a rod shop or a normal shop. Curiousty gets the better of me. He was here for quite some time too.
I'm like a little kid too when I see a hot rod going down the highway, I always have to look.
