i have a 79 f-150 it has a 44ld axle and i have a 44hd in my garage. can i just switch the guts an keep the axle and coil springs so i dont have to convert to leafs. my question is does the hd bolt right in to my ld so i can have 8 lug. will it work, and did someone already post, it if so tell me where to look.

there is no difference in the axle shafts, carrier or gears. every thing between the 2 is the same accept the outter stuff and the brakes are bigger. really there would be no point in the swap becasue it would be the same stuff.

I concur with this. Usually it goes the other way using a 44 HD to put in a jeep and swaping to the LD hubs etc. Axles are the same so there is no advantage to rthe swap going the other way.

If you still have the parts, I am looking for everything from the spindles/backing plates out from a HD. I want to convert my LD to 8 lug as I am putting in a 10.25 ff rear in my f150, so to keep me from having to carry 2 spares until the $$ arrives to get a D60 front, I am having to convert.
Let me know what you want for the parts + shipping so we can work a deal.
