need some info about original engine

i am looking into getting a 78 f100. as of now i am being told it has an automatic 360 in it. is this the original motor size? and if not what was?

You should be able to tell by the VIN number what originally came with it..
I believe the 360 was still available in 78, but not sure.

no, ford stopped unseing the FE series engines in the trucks in 76, that would either have a 351M or a 400 in it stock.

If it is really a 78 it could have originally been a 300 6cyl, 302, 351M, 400 or 460. But Ive never seen a 460 in an F-100. And 460' only came in 2wd's. Post your VIN so we can decode it.
