trouble starting 7.5L??
I just purchased this ole 89 f250 and it has trouble starting its like when the starter gets too hot or you got a bad battery plus the little battery light indicator stays on and after you drive it awhile it will start going on and off then it will eventually stay off until you kill it?? After it gets heated up then it wont start again..Unless you jump it off.
the altemeter is usually to the right of center I believe?? Its almost like its allittle out of time....
note: The battery seems to have a good spark....Any ideas??

Check your alternator output with a voltmeter.It should be at least 14.5 while running. If your are on the road you can check to see if alternator is functionig by hold a screwdriver against the bearing cap on the back.The bearing should be strongly magnetized if charging. Dont get your arm caught in anything spinning while you do this.The timing being off would create a hot start problem but should not make the battery light come on.

My old 92 460 used to have that problem when it was hot. Just sounded like a weak battery. I checked all the conections and put in a high performance battery. That helped a little, but I finally took the local parts mans advice and retarded the timing just a lil bit. This did the trick. He said that alot of the Big Blocks(460, 454 chevy) have carbon biuldup on top of the pistons, which will alter the compression. It definately did the trick. I think the 460 just had too much compression for the starter to spin it.
