How much horsepower will a intake and headers add? to my 460? how do i tell if i have the 4v? and does that stand for 4 valves? i do not want to get crazy with this engine. i just want a newer intake mine is rusted and i will go with a poslished intake probably. and the headers are next. i wish i could go with polished headers but they rust right?
first no 4v doesn't stand for 4 valve it stands for 4 barrel carb, next if you have a carbed 460 and it's original it will have a 4 barrel carb (only 429s ever came with 2v carbs) and to tell take the aircleaner off and see how many holes go into the carb.
intake choice should be based on desired outcome with the engine, and parred with what other mods have been done specifically what cam is in it.
well i dont want to change anything more than headers and intake really. i dont want use more gas really. just replace the rusted intake and slightly up grade as i am. also is it hard to change itseems easy. do remove the valve covers? which is a good mild but better polished intake?
any alum intake can be polished, if your wanting to stay pretty stock use a edelbrock performer or for a little better performance a wieand stealth. headers, my understanding is the L&L headers have a good chrome job on them and they do have a very good flange that is double the thickness of the cheaper sets like headman.
the performer says for high peformance use like tracks. the stealth seems the same way. the edelbrock torker II seems to be mild but better for high end power would that be good. we have plenty low end. with a 460 f250.
the torker intake is a single plane intake for higher rpm use and will cost you some of the low end torque that these engines put out. A performer is not much more than a alum copy of a stock intake, there is some very small refinements but basically it's about the same thing made out of alum so you could polish it.

would it be a bad idea to move some power into the high end? i have plenty to share. i am going to most likely go for the l&l headers. hopefully fenderwell exiting.
you will lose way more power than you think, mismatching cam and intake will not just move the rpm range up it will cost you low end torque becuase of the intake and on the high end your cam will not help and will be out of it's range so at best it will stay the same and at worst will actually lose hp
ok. so the preformer or the stealth?? i was looking at the wrong intake. it was the performer rpm model. i could polish it my self and save money? what do i use? i need to polish some aluminum rims also.
Listen to MONSTER the performer 460 is a good manifold for an everyday truck. The 4 V sticker means 4 venturi carb it is the same as 4 barrel carb.Your stock carb is probably a spreadbore design meaning the secondaries are larger than the main holes/primaries in the carb. You must consider this when installing your carb/manifold.If your carb is a model 4300 it is a spreadbore.A Performer460 manifold and 650cfm carb like a Holley or Edelbrock/Carter will make you happy. L&L headers are great thick flanges no leaks no hastles.
i want l&l's but. i dont want to lift mt truck anymore thats an added exspense. it is high now i think it should work. how can i tell if my truck is lifted more than a highboy.
second i want to change the intake cause its rusted. so i will use the edelbrock performer in polished. thats a mild intake i hear that mimicks the original.
I second listening to MONSTER, if this is a stock engine I found the cheapest mod is to do the timing chain, on othe posts I have gone into what I have done for TORQUE.
i know its "justed rusted" man. i cant see pulling it and painting it. i have nice pollished valve covers by ford racing the tall ones. and i think more polished will look good. and wont rust. rust is real bad here.
