Strange Noises

I have a 2000 F350 PSD and this afternoon I noticed a different noise when I turned my key on and was waiting for the glow plugs to warm up. Everything seemed to work fine and run good but after I got home I did some looking and found what is making the noise, just not sure what it is. On the passenger side just in front of the blower motor for the heater/ac is what appears to be a little vaccum pump of some kind and when you turn the key on it just runs continuously. On the front of this there is a barb sticking out that air blows out of but I did not find a vaccum line anywhere that would attach to it.

Thanks for the help!

It is your vacuum pump. It runs your ESOF 4wd and your heater controls. Look again for a line to hook back to it. It should have 3 lines running to it. Also there is a white "snout" sticking straight out the front. If air is blowing out of this "snout" all the time the pump may have a bad diaphram. Or it could be a vacuum leak at the wheels causing it to leak down. Usally the pump will run for a minute or so max, when you first turn the switch on.
