I have the factory bars (as pictured. They are very nice, but they hang unnecessarily low!! Look at em, they're ridiculous.
I was wondering if anybody had drilled in new holes higher up in the hangers. Upon inspection, I think I could get those bars at least 2 inches higher just by drilling. What does everybody think?? Have u seen it done?

By mid next week the truck will have 4.5" of lift and some 35s, so I wanted to see what I could do about these steps.
with the lift and big tires you just may want to keep them hanging low! anyway i took the covers off mine cause i like the way it looks better, and i dont see why that wouldnt work. you will probably have to hack off the excess bracket though. they hang closer to the body on the f150's and i find myself rubbing my pant leg against them and getting dirty. i dont notice it with the super duty bars. (i dont use the bars to get in on either of them)
Yes, I have seen several do this on 2005, to get the clearance. Measure twice, cut once. :-) A friend of mine raised his quite close to the bottom of the doors, it looks good, he did after getting hi centred pulling out a Chevy, then he needed to be pulled out. The torch and drill came out that weekend.
I am thinking of doing mine too, I get the added bonus of watching my wife try and get in..... She is only 5 ' 4 ", I am 6 '.
Yeah..your going to loose functionality if you raise them up especially when you lift your truck. If its looks your after and not functionality...I would just take them off.
I'm planning to do this tomorrow on my 06. I think they look too low also. It looks like the step brackets can be cut above the lower mounting holes, then bolted in the upper holes of the truck body. drill new lower holes to match existing holes in body. This should raise the step bars 3 1/4". This should leave 3/4" from the bottom of the door to the step. It looks like an easy mod. I will take before and after pics for those who want to see.
You better watch that you don't weaken the sheet metal on the back of the rocker panel.
Also those ar the cheaper steps that ford offers.
The tube steps that is offered in the chrome pkg are better looking than those.
Their 5" instead of 4" I ordered mine seperate.
I have seen pics in here from someone who did a nice job raising theirs up.
Just do a search and see what comes up. I have the same step bars on my o4
as you have and I thought about raising them also, but they are just the right height to help climb into the cab.

Mod is done! This was easy, only takes a couple of hours. I reused factory bolts and mounting holes.I think it looks a lot better. I can't figure out how to post pics on here.
Come on Cal, get those pics up for us to see this new look. I have an 06 CC LB 6.0 FX4 also and was thinking of just taking them off completely as I high centered in a place where that should have never happened. Got it through just really annoying to have it happen at all. Maybe someone here can help you with the pic posting thing. I am basically computer retarded so I cant help out.....
