97 Explorer - Shifter issue
It was locked out, I messed around with it (since I wasn't going anywhere) and found that if I put the ignition switch to the position before the starter is engaged, I could put the shifter into neutral and start my Explorer. From there, I could put it into drive or reverse.
The problem continues to be from park, the explorer will still not engage into reverser/neurtral/drive if I have the shifter in park, my foot on the brake, and the car running.
It appears to be a linkage issue? I am no backyard mechanic, but if anyone else has had a similiar issue or knows of this, I would appreciate some assistance on why it is happenning, and what I can do about it without taking it into the shop.

If the brake lights are working, check interior fuse 10.
If fuse 10 is OK, the shift lock actuator is probably shot.
