I have an '97 Explorer Sport 4x4 with a manual M5R1 transmission that has been shifting hard for a long time. I have changed the fluid and clutch assembly and the problem is still there. There is close to 150k on the trany. I also have a '88 Bronco II 4x4, it does not run, which has a A4LD floor shift automatic transimission. My question is will the transimission out of the Bronco II if into my Explorer Sport?

 

You would be opening up a big can of worms trying to get the A4LD to work in a 97, not to mention the manual to automatic conversion. A better solution would be to simply rebuild the M5R1.

The A4LD would be very short-lived in the heavier Explorer, anyway.
