55 F100 Kingpin replacement

Working my way around the brakes on my 55 and have found a bad kingpin right side so would like to replace both. My question is does the new kingpin need to be pressed in by machine or can they be done by hand?

Sounds good

I don't have a whole lot of stories yet, I've had the truck for 3 weeks.. well I guess I do.. its already been through an attempted theft lol.. This is my first project and it will be a whole lot of work. Its running and is driveable but the previous owner hacked the poor thing to death.. Ive got pics in my gallery

Well thats where it all begins, saw your gallery and looks like a great starting point. As with mine I am sure you will have plenty to do for awhile.

Hi Joe

The bushes for your kingpins need to be pressed into the hubs, I did mine in a vice

They then need to be reamed out to size which is probably best done by a local shop unless you have or can borrow a reamer

The shop that did mine reamed them then finished them to size to fit the pins with a line honing machine, cost £30 about $50

The hard part can be getting the old pins out, I got mine out by jacking the truck up, placing a metal bar between the ground and the bottom of the pin and slowly lowering the jack so the weight of the truck pressed the pins out

Good Luck

Steve

I removed the old bronze bushings with a hammer and round chisel after pounding out the pins. Put the new bushings in by hammer and piece of round stock. Reamed the bushings and hammered in the pins.
