Optima Yellow Top Battery

Hello Everybody,

I am tring to install an Optima Yellow Top Battery in my 2003 Ford Ranger 4x4. According to the Optima Co. I need a D34. The problem is that the D34s are 1/2 inch too long to fit in the battery tray. That battery I am using now is a Group 59.

Any suggestions? Do I need a bigger battery tray?

why a yellow top? Reason I ask is they only carry a 1 year warranty and as I was told not really a starter type battery. My son had one in his maxima due to the amps and stuff. After the car was wrecked we took it out, put it in the wifes accord and it would just go dead if it sat a day or so. Passed all load tests and stuff, replaced it with a red top 3yr warraanty I think and we have had no problems. A tad high at $130 but no messy acid to spill etc.

I also put it in my ranger as I drive 150 miles daily, it sat for 2 days and went flat, so I also have a red top in it.

Got a 99 Ranger, 2.5, 5-spd.--went to Wal-mart, and picked up a battery. Working just fine out here west of Chicago this winter...been plenty cold.

well I guess no one else will jump in, but I would think you would be better off with red top type and have an extra (yellow) for the winch and I would guess work lights. Most of the builds I have seen are like that, Like I said the yellow from what I was told is not a good starter type battery.

Whatever ya decide hope it all works out.

I had a Yellow top in my first Ranger with no problems whatsoever in terms of performance. 600W worth of lights, 350W Linear CB amplifier, stereo, hot & muggy or cold & icy, nothing ever phased it. It always started on the first crank.

It was kinda loose in the battery tray, and I ended up fabbing my own brace and hold-down strap.
