trani swap
hello out there i need some help i have a 59 ford pickup with a t98 4speed transmission and i have a t18 4speed that i want to swap out but the input shaft on the t18 is about a half inch different in length and is smaller around so can i chang clucths and use my bellhousing or do i need a differnt bellhouseing or can i switch the input shaft from one trani to the other im looking for some info any would be helpful

Why change? Aren't those transmissions about the same? If the T18 is toast, it'd be cheaper to find another one.

well i believe the t18 is sycronized unlike the t98 plus my trucks a 59 cab on a 61 frame and 63 axels and the t18 came in the 61 frame and the t98 tail shaft is different so my drive lines wont work with the t98

When I changed engine and tranny in my 56 I ran into the same driveline problem. I ended up changing the front yoke on the driveshaft to fit the t-18. Can't help on the clutch side. Have heard both sides yes and no about bellhousings. If i remember correctly there is about an inch and a half difference in the length between engine and gearbox of the two bellhousings.
