'96 f150 vibration

hello, i have a '96 f-150 4x4 ext. cab long box. the truck develops a rumbling noise in the front end area of the truck whenever i get over 45 m.p.h. i cannot feel it in the steering wheel, nor the brake pedal. the tires are balanced and are new. any ideas where to look? thanks for any help. dave

Are your hubs locked in?
Are they the automatic variety?

It almost sounds like wheel bearings on the way out.

the hubs are not locked in. i tried locking and unlocking the hubs and there is no difference the rumbling in eqaully as loud over 45 m.p.h.. the hubs are automatic. thanks for your reply.

It's probably the bearings, I guess they are one of the things that gets noisy alot of people talk on here about replacing them. My truck doesn't feel that smooth I'm planning on doing new bearings all around. You can get a master bearing/seal kit for the front/rear axle and transfer case for around $350.
