Is it going back in the truck? Why do you want a carb?

it's not hard, but it is expensive if the engine is going back into your current truck and you have the automatic tranny, because the tranny is computer controlled,so you will need a stand alone computer to run the tranny.

The stand alone computer costs around $600 last I heard. There are EFI friendly cams you can get, this would be your best route. I do believe your 96 should be MAF,so your options are more than if your truck was SD. Do a search on here for camshafts,or wait for the SBF guru conanski(paul) to come along and see this post. LOL

These people don't know what they're talking about. Not only is your truck mass air it is OBD-2 which means it can be tuned from the drivers seat with a hand held device. This is by far the best EFI system ever made available in these trucks and it is capable of adapting to just about any modification you can think of.

What else are you doing to the motor, is it getting heads or an intake or are you going just refurbisning the OEM parts? And what is the rest of the powertrain.. trans, axle gearing, and tire size, and how do you use the truck? You could use many different cams in this motor but the one that is best suited depends on these other things.

You have no issues...your truck is easily tunable through obdii port, and you may not have to do that depending on your cam choice. I would not swap to carb, as you still have to have eec to control tranny. I know of several guys that could probably help you with the tune if needed. The swap would be a waste of money with no benefit.

Carb $350 +
Intake $200
Fuel Pressure Reg $150
Trans controller $450
Harness $150

$1300 +, not counting making the new fuel lines, rewiring the relay for the fuel pump, and new throttle cable (need to use one from a carbed late 80's 460) As for cam, there are several that will work with EFI, like CJ said, wait for Conanski to check in, he will be able to send you in the right direction for tweaking the motor and keeping the EFI too.

You want to swap to a carb and all you are putting in the motor is a cam?!

Your lucky you have an f150 with mass air and OBD2. People with the larger trucks would love to have that set up as they do alot more heavy hauling and need the extra power and tuning abilities of the obd2...

Carb is a waste of time and money for just a cam swap. Many cams will work in this motor and give you great power with all the advantages of having fuel injection

You want the Comp 35-320-8 and matching valve springs and you absolutely, definitely, without question need 4.30-4.56 gears in the axles.
