Can anyone recommend a good wood striping product. I have a nice set of end tables and a coffee table I want to strip down and refinish, but I am unsure what to use. If you think this should be posted in the general forum please let me know. Otherwise thanks in advance.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Sep-02 AT 07:57 AM (EST)]I have used CITRISTRIP many times, it works great. It is a gel. Just brush it on and take a break for about 2-3 hours. When you come back the paint just peels off with a putty knife. There are others that work quicker, and others that go deeper, but this stuff is an excellent alternative. When I have gotten it on my hands it does not burn like some will. It is safe to leave on overnight also, if you need to, just cover it with plastic. Give it a try.
Also, I usually use disposable plastic putty knives. If you need to you can file/grind them to fit the intricate parts.
I've used citristrip too, on the staircase that I refinished last winter. I found that a stiff plastic scrub brush works well in crevices and fine details. It does raise the grain, so you need to be prepared to do a bit of sanding before you can finish.
Thanks for the advice. Where does one get citristrip? WalMart? ACE truevalue? I want to get started on this this weekend while the weather is still good. I will definately pick up the plastic putty knives. Thanks again.
