I'm looking for a good set(L,R,S) of tin snips for my auto body sheetmetal work and little projects around the house. I've used name brand sets with relative ease and wasted money on the cheapo snips that broke while I was using them. (Lucky I didn't loose an eye or receive an injury then.) The average price for the namebrand sets is around $30, so it's 10 bucks a piece. For that kind of money I'm leaning towards brands that offer lifetime warranties. What brand(s) do ya'll recommend?
Also, I'm having a hard time finding suppliers of hand seamers for sheet metal work. Grainger is the only place I've seen carry it so far. Where did ya'll get yours?
Wiss will last a LONG time. 9 times outta 10 when they fell, it's because of user error. If they are not put into a bind while cutting, you will get many years of use out of them. How do I know this? Cause myself and alot of my family have been sheet metal mechanics. Malco also makes great cutting shears.
There's also the lowly saber saw: it'll cut large sheets, will handle thick hard stuff like 16 gauge stainless with the right blade, makes an impressive racket, can cut curves without curling the metal, and doesn't need a big air compressor (like a die grinder with cutoff wheel).
Can't go wrong with Wiss, it's all I've ever used. Tough as nails. Sears, Home Depot, et al carry them. They also make great scissors for the garage/shop. Reasonably priced as well, they'll last a LOOONG time if properly cared for.
