Anyone use virgin mobile for cell service? I am trying it here in Canada, and so far it is pretty good! Fairly cheap rates and decent service, just wanted to see what you guys out there are all using!
I am using Nextel. The rates are fairly decent and service used to be superb but since that storm that tore up a nice chunk of this area last year, I guess a bunch of their towers were damaged but the service is now "so-so" to put it nicely. It works great in my area and where I am most of the time but my mom is in the hospital in the New Orleans area and it works good there just in route there your signal is a hope and a prayer.

Yep, I use Virgin mobile. Had it about 6 months now. I only need a phone for emergencies, as I'm not a yacker. Works great for my area up and down the East coast. A $30 phone and $20 every 3 months is a great deal.
I use Sprint. I get better reception then my boss who has Nextel. I think his poor reception is deu to the cheap free phone.
I think that may be due to reception issues in your area. I have used the cheap i205 as a loaner when my phone was broken and in some places I had better reception with that one than with my i560. My mom also has the i205 and its the same with hers. Not that I lose the signal on my 560, they just have more signal strength.

Sprint and Nextel merged, so I doubt that would be the case... Phones can make a difference, which tower it is pulling, that kind of thing.
Out here in the Midwest, I use US Celullar, have signal a good portion of the time. Sprint is concentrated around the major roads, so those of us that aren't near a major road have nothing from them. Nextel had more area, and generally has coverage if you have the free roaming plan...

Although Sprint and Nextel merged, they still use their own respective network. Nextel is an iden network and Sprint is I think a GCMS network. In the future they will be on the same network as the Nextel iden network will be phased out but that isnt happening yet. All Nextels work perfect in my area but you will never get any kind of signal with Sprint here, if that was the case, Verizon would be here and I would have dropped Nextel faster than a hot potatoe.
When I say my boss has the cheapest free phone I mean the cheapest nokia made. He can loose signal on the nokia and I have full bars. His phone bites he calls me and I get static sometimes and he could be within a mile of a tower. I explained that the phone he has is the worst rated nokia for reception. He won't spring for a better phonem so it's his own fault. I have a samsung and a sanyo and I get great reception almost all the time. Only time I dont is when I am in a valley in between towers.
I have Alltel service and it works great for me.It works most places I go except when I'm in certain places in the mountains which it's normal for all the carriers here.
