I have a 92 ranger with 2.3 5sp manual trans . The check oil light comes on at times seemingly when it is cooler weather and then goes out at a later re-start . I checked the oil and it is ok and runs fine . This has been goimg on for about a week so ai would say it is oiling fine. So could it be just the sensor , if so how can I check it ? thanks in advance E.G.
In our era trucks, mine is a 94, the gauge needle should be pointing almost straight up.
If it's not, the sender is probably bad. I will guess that in most 14-year old trucks, it's not been changed anyway.
Otherwise, since our gauge is what it is and to be safe, I would find someone who can hook up a mechanical pressure gauge and make sure things are okay.
thanks for the reply. The oil guage is fine , as you say half-way or straight up and down and it does not rattle as when one is not oiling but seeing the lighy on sort of plays on one's mind
Hi, everyone I thought I would let you know my problem was yhe check oil level Relay that was under the dash . So far problem solved
THanks for the replys and have a great day
The check oil light normally comes on whenever the sensor in the oil pan doesn't read anything. Mine used to work, but now it never comes on. The light on the dash still works, but whenever I change the oil, I always run a couple quarts of kerosene through it and run it for a minute or so to flush everything out. The light used to come on while doing this, now it doesn't.
Yeah, the physical oil pressure sending unit and the oil level sending unit are 2 different things. I wonder if that relay is so that the check oil light will come on if it doesnt sense oil, or if it senses a weak pressure?
Yeah, you can fix that though if you put a jumper wire between the resistor that makes that happen. Must be good at soldering computer boards though, lol
Really...never heard of that one, just replacing the sender. Where is this (stupid) resistor? I'm pretty good at soldering computer boards myself actually, working on comps is one of my hobbies. Though I much prefer soldering with a torch lol.
I guess its part of the insturment cluster. I know i saw a pic of it on these boards somewhere, try doing a search. I'll look around too and see what I can find.
