i am looking to buy one of these 48-60. anyone know any good ones close to new york , new jersey or penn. what are they running for? i hope to find a cheap one. i know where i could get a nice chevy but i dont want one of those . i have a 72 and 73 different body styles thats when they changed.
You could check the classified section on this site, and you could also try ebay. As to the price, what is cheap to you may seem expensive to me. It's all about how much you think it is worth and if you feel comfortable spending that much. I paid somewhere around $600 for my '53, and I knew a guy who paid about $3500 for the same year in about the same condition.
real nice looking truck. 600 sounds better to me i dont have money laying around i am going to try to find one for under 100 and fix it.
Thanks. However, if you look in my gallery, there is a picture of it sitting in my driveway with the bed off of it,......that was the condition it was in for the $600 price tag I would think you would be extremely lucky to find one for $100. I would say a stock one sitting in some farmers field, would net at least $500, just from what I have seen and experienced I would say finding one for under $1000 wouldn't be that hard to find, at least in my area.
I bought my parts rig for $400 2 years ago. I left the cab and the 223 with the PO since he thought he could get a few bucks for them and all I wanted was the frame and the bed anyway.
Under 100.00 for a complete truck? Well maybe if you time traveled back to around 1960 hit up the midwest and found one stashed in a barn. jk
I would say 500.00 is a good starting point, but also if I had the choice between one that was 500 vs. 1000 and the 1k one was in slightly better condition, the extra amount is definately worth it. I've noticed that when people go outta there way to save money they spend it back trying to fix the P.O. mistakes.

Title transfer fees are almost half what you want to pay - I bought a 60 model off Ebay for $112, but it did not have a title, nor a motor, or windshield wipers. Plus I had to go through China Town and into a real getto area of San Fran to get it. Come to think of it, the gas and rent on the trailer was more than $100.
But then I have already used $500 worth of parts off it on my 59.
I don't want to ***** your balloon, but you are just not going to find anything worth saving for $100 - unless you find someone who likes you and wants to get rid of a truck.
You should be prepared to spend $2,000 to get a truck safe, dependable, and licensed for the road. It maters little if you spend it up front in buying a better truck, or on parts fixing a $250 basket case.
well i can spend more but it will take me longer to buy. i make most my money when its warm. but i would like to start looking. i am considering this body conversion. i have a 72 that needs somework. but i can take it to the frame and make a cool truck. i need to know if it will fit. a big 4wheel drive 50-60 would look pretty cool.
These guys know what they are talking about. You might find something (total rusted out basket case) for a few hundred dollars, but you will put $2000 (pr more) in it just to get it road worthy and legal.
My suggestion (was suggested to me too) is to find one somone has done a lot of the work on already. They get tired of working on them and are willing to sell. I paid more for mine, but it was well worth it. I would have spent twice as much (easily) getting a basket case to this point.

Can it be done? Probably, but it will take major fabrication, lots of time, and a lot of money.
You can buy most of it in fiberglass, but redoing an old steel one might be less expensive. Nothing is cheap with old trucks!
I am one of those guys that have a project truck, 56 F100, but with 2 daughters in college I have made alot less progress than planned. Most of the hardwork is done but I don't have the funds to complete it any time soon. I am willing to sell to free up my garage. I don't know what is considered cheap but the cheaper you buy the more you will have to spend in the longrun. Anyone interested give me a shout for all the details. dwj9124@yahoo.com
No, I don't believe so. Again I agree with everyone else getting something that is legal (dmv registered/title) and isn't a total rustbucket is going to cost. I got a great deal on mine but still am going through it replacing things left and right and its adding up fast. I could have just bought a 8-12k finished one (which isn't a bad idea). But I wanted to have my own truck, not someone elses.
Either way your going to spend $$$. Four shoulder bolts for the hood hinges just cost me 23 bucks!
