Im about to buy a 79 Ford Bronco. It is a dark purple color with black interior. Its a 400 motor and c6 trans that were rebuilt 30000 miles ago and a frame off restore in 94. very little rust and a couple dents. runs and drives great but needs a windshield(included in deal). He wants 1200.00 Im wondering if you guys think this is a good deal and if theres anything on these trucks i should check. ive never owned a bronco but ive owned several 73-79 ford trucks. thanks in advance.
The 78 79 Broncos are just as good as the 73-79 trucks, almost identical under the body, and most parts interchange between the two.
IF he was selling it for $1,200 like you said, I would jump all over it, but I have a feeling it's $12,000, and that is really high. The guy might have $12K into it, but I wouldn't give him $12 for it. IF you can, get some pics up and I could tell you if it would be worth $10,000 or so.
The 400 motor isn't the most powerful engine, but with a few bolt on things, you can really wake it up. The C6 transmission is very strong and reliable. The transfer case is either a part time NP205(mostlikly), or a full time NP203.
Very strong reliable truck, but let us know alittle more about it, and possibly get some pics.
You can check ebay for 78 79 broncos in good condition to find out a price range.
I picked up my 79 for $1500 CAD two years ago. The interior was crap, no radio, holes all over in the floor boards, exterior surface rusted and sprayed over with flat black. Seats junk, no back seat. The drivetrain was mostly ok except for the rear drive shaft and one front ujoint - both were shredded. Plus tailgate is pretty much only rust holding it together. The only thing good on it I guess you could say were the tires....and even the two of the rims were slotted and had to be replaced. But I had many spare parts on hand from other broncos and she's driving around today.
If he truely did do a frame off restorsion a few years ago, I'm supprised he doesn't want more for it.
I bought my Bronco for $1,500 and I thought it was in great shape, but far from restored.
Get some pics, and tell us about it, but for $1,200 it alsmost doesn't matter.
Well i went to put a down payment on it. when i was about 4 blocks from the house i see a truck with a trailer coming from that direction WITH THE BRONCO ON BOARD! so i go to the guy and ask what happened and he says he forgot to mention that the tranny took 10 seconds to engage in reverse and the 4x4 stopped working. and he felt it would be easier to sell it to someone else and ignore my phone calls and emails. Oh well it was very nice looking but they come and go....Im picking up a 79 in two weeks ill post pics in a few more minutes.
