Exploder intake***more torque

Has anyone tried an explorer intake manifold on a ranger 4.0 sohc? It has quit a bit more torque, I mean the stock explorer 4.0 has more torque than the ranger 4.0, due to intake manifold design.

I'm hard pressed to believe there is seriously more torque because of it.

Well ford advertizes the explorer sohc 4.0 at 254 ft pounds, and 210 hp. The ranger sohc is 238 ft pounds, and 207 hp. My service tech says the only difference is the intake manifold, so take it from there.

Hmmm....I dunno. It may well do it. As far as I know they still use the same 4.0L. I might be inclined to believe it's something else in the drivetrain, but heck if it really turns out to be the IM, that's be a nice way to pump up a couple of ponies and a lotta torque.

Thats what I was thinking also, but i'm sure it would need a tune to readjust the air fuel ratio. I'm going to investgate this further, and see what I can find out.

I can't figure out why ours would be smaller. Makes no sense, not like the Exploder is way bigger. Maybe they just got the upgrade first.

well if the explorer intake in less restrictive than the ranger's then it would make more power. More air = more power.

Yeah that makes sense. But why take two otherwise identical engines, in otherwise indentical (for all practical purposes) front ends, and upgrade one?

That would be my first guess. The X needs the extra torque to push the extra weight. I'm curious about this myself. Might be a worthwhile addition.

Yeah that really does make more sense. The Exploder, being heavier, would need a little more ooumph. I'm willing to bet it brings the performance close to the 4.0L in the Ranger. To the uninformed buyer, I'm guessin' they see 4.0L and expect a certain performance.

For the amount of torque it provides, I would imagine so. An intake manifold would be much cheaper than some other bolt on modifications (i.e. supercharger), and it provides much more torque. Might even be able to sell the old Ranger one to recoupe some of the cost.

I just wanna know if it'll fit an older Ranger, like oh I dunno, say my '94.

An intake manifold providing much more torque than a supercharger? I don't think so!!! If the specs are correct, there is only 16ft/lbs difference between
the Explorer & Ranger!! A Whipple on a 3.0L increases the torque from 180ft/lbs to 260ft/lbs.
