1 ton rear end

Does anyone know how to tell the difference between a 3/4 ton and a 1 ton rear end. It has no tags that I can see.

1 ton rear end

The 3/4 should be a Dana 60, the 1 ton would be a Dana 70, at least thru early to mid 80's. This is cast into the webbing around the cover or pinion usually (not always though), just "60" or "70".

Hi, you can also look for extra long axle studs and if it had dual wheels it should have line up pins installed in the axle.
