Internet Speed Tests

Do they work? Are they acurate? I'm seeing anywhere between 17 and 700 kbps. My ISP claims to be "up to" 1.3 mbps but I can't get there. My computer seems real slow.

638k/sec at the first link (375k/sec on a second try)
2.4mb/sec at the second
2.6mb/sec at the third

The first one seems kinda bum to me *shrug*

What ISP are you using? (company and type) with the 1.3M sounds like DSL, you may have line stresses causing problems.

I use Direcway satalite service with their 6000 series modem. Useing just Intrenet Explorer with these tests I'm seeing 600/700 KBPS up and down. Going thru AOL, same tests show 47/148 down and 17/58 up. Really slow!
Got spoiled by Roadrunner in Austin, but now out here in the country satalite is our only choice. I miss my 3/5 meg speed. Anyone Know if there is sat service better than Direcway? Or why AOL is so slow?

That really sucks man, I dont know if I could go back to speeds like that. Once in a while our cable will bog down, and I want to put my fist through the screen...LOL. Good luck

Even with DSL reports all of mine are fairly consistent. They go down with the distance to the testing server.

The Internet frog is by far the easiest to use and the test result display is outstanding for showing where you are and how it relates to others and to industry standards.
