Well my 6637 filter came in today, definately alot cheaper than going another direction. Putting the filter in the factory hose worked great, only question is for those of you who put this in you 97, The filter fits pretty snug between the master cyl and battery. Has anyone had any trouble with the air hose wearing out prematurely?
Haven't fired the truck up yet, got dark out too soon, but I can't wait for tomorrow Now if my 4" exhaust would ever show up.....
My air filter has been that way for 35,000 miles no and no problems yet. Tomorrow you'll be impressed how much of a difference that filter makes. And not to mention you no longer have to worry about dirt getting through that factory airbox.
anticipation might get to me first...might have to go for a midnight ride LOL I was surprised when I pulled the intake tube, it was nice and clean inside. Filter was catching alot of dirt, outer sponge was dusted pretty good
On my 96 I put a 45 degree pvc elbow into the factory hose then used a short piece of 4inch hose about five -six inches long to the filter .The hose slips over the filter so I put a bead of rtv around the inside of the hose and ran sheetmetal screws through the hose into the filter flange to make sure it wouldn't slip off I still used hose clamps also.I had it slip off on me about two days after I installed it that's why I use the sheetmetal screws now.
i have great results with a 4" 45* also. i tried the other way first with a short piece of 4" pvc to connect the two and it did not work very well along with having to bend the black intake hose. with a 45 it sits in there perfect. fwiw install like 1st pic not like 2nd pic.
On my 97 I used a piece of straight 4" OD alum, pipe about 7 inches long, just rotate the boot a bit and it just lays in there, not really wedged in but it can't move. It is a pefect fit. PVC is not really recomended as it can distort and leak.
HAS YOURE FUEL MILEAGE GONE DOWN FROM WHEN YOU FIRST INSTALLED THE FILTER, I HAVE THE SAME FILTER AND HAVE HAD IT ON FOR ABOUT 20,000 MILES. RECENTLY NOTICED A REDUCED MPG, FROM 17.5 TO ABOUT 16. I WAS WONDERING IF THE 6637 FILTER COULD BE NOT LETTING ENOUGH AIR THROUGH THE FILTER? I ALSO HAVE USED DIESEL CLEAN, TO CLEAN THE INJECTORS, AND REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP.

I have pictures of my intake in my gallery I suggest if you are going to change it to check your orange hose have had three strokes and eventaully all got soft there and had to replace You can't get the orange hose at turbo now it is a upgraded black one I used it in my intake and like it better also did ccv mod at same time
I also thing you need a good way to support it. You need to look at tymars support because he is the one all of us are coping.
Just wondering how good this kwik filter would be as our truck sees lots of snow and dust as were constantly driving on gravel roads and threw our fields in the summer, what do you guys think, or any other suggestions as to what might be better or maybe this won't be a problem!!
