I think a good split would between the 48-53 years and the 54-60, split them between the Flathead and the Y-block. I think the Flathead forum in the engine section could also be put together with the 48 to 53 section. I've always wondered why the 48 to 53 wasn't part of the 47 and older section. It seems that there is more in common there than with the later Y-block years. I'm not trying to step on anyones toes here as I have really enjoyed the 48-60 forum and the interaction with all the members. It just seems like all the Flathead stuff could be lumped together.

Just my 2 cents

You guys are trying to confuse me now. Other than the cab parts, rear springs, and 12V, what is different between the 53-55 and 56?

The 57 is a whole different cab and front sheet metal. I thought the frame and all was different one it as well. How did the 56 get grouped with it in this thread?

Not arguing or anything...just asking.

Rod, There are already seperate engine forums, this is purely about chasis and body. Thanks for sharing opinion though.

Can I speak up for the undecided? I have a 1958 F-100 and find myself learning things pertanent to my truck from both the '56 and older and the '61 and newer groups. The 50s group tells me great things about my suspension and generator based electronics. The 60s group tells me about my 292 Y-block.

This duality of the 57-60 trucks is, frankly. part of their charm. These trucks had the first body style I consider to be modern (smoothside). The mechanicals are clearly still post-war technology. The "transition" period these trucks occupy and the orphan-mindset that accompany their owners is a defining characteristic.

I don't have an opinion about segregating the 57-60s. Thanks for your time.

I've a few F/M-series Truck Parts & Options Catalogs that are '56-'57 Specific & list some parts that are the same & to be used on both years of trucks that are not body parts.

I didn`t think Ford changed much in the frame and mechanics till the Twin I Beam came out in 65, the frame, suspension, steering gear boxs, ect were quite similar.
