Let me first apologize for my lack of knowledge...I'm trying to learn as I go. I have a '75 F-100 w/ a 302 2bbl carb & 4 speed tranny . The carb has an electric choke that is a joke. I want to convert over to a new 2bbl carb with a manual choke.
I'd like some insights of whether Holley is the way to go...or another brand. Actually...more important than the brand of carb...I need to know the size of carb. For example...I seen Holley 2 BBLs of 350CFM and 500CFM...and I do not know what I need for the 302.
What I am looking for is reliability over flat out rubber burning performance. My truck is not a daily driver, but a old, rusted beater that I use on occasion when I go camping...so cost is a consideration.
I would like to know any other items I need to make the carb fit to the stock manifiold or if my conversion requires a new manifold. I've tried to search on the subject and hear talk about adapter plates & step down linkage...but not sure if that applies in my case.
Also...I'd appreciate any opinions on vendors you've dealt with that you like or don't.
Thank you in advance for your help. Have a good day and a better weekend.

the motorcrafts are pretty good carbs and very simple. Go down to your local autozone and go to their little shelf with all the various crap that all say HELP! on the packages. They have a electric to manual choke conversion kit that is fir your motorcraft. There is everything in there that you need and will cost you $10.
I agree with 76f150_4x4_360fe. I had a holley put on my 1978 f250 400, it had to be adjusted all the time, the power valve kept blowing and in cold weather is took a long time to warm up, had lots of power but sucked the gas, it was on a eldebrock intake. I had the motorcraft 2150 rebuilt and it ran great and had power and better mileage. It was a waste of my money, paid over $700 for the holley and intake set up, sold it all for $550. Fixing the original was about $180 and she ran great. Just my 2 cents from experience.
Wow...I cannot thank you enough. You have answered all of my questions! I thought about rigging the electric choke to manual...but I didn't know there was an actual kit. Thanks for that info! But for my situation I think replacing the carb would be better.
There are some other issues I didn't go into on my original posting.
Thanks for the info on the size and that it's a direct bolt on. That makes it easier. Now I just need to decide if I want to stick w/ Motorcraft or try the Holley. Sounds like for my application...where simplicity and reliability are paramount...I need to think about the motorcraft.
Anyway...thanks again for the help. have a good day and a better weekend!
if your engine is stock you want the 380 Holley 2bbl, i put a 500 Holley 2bbl street avenger on my 78 351m and it was too much for the mild cam, ....now a 500 cfm with the smaller acceletator pump might be ok, mine has the larger one and i think thats why it hesitates before it opens up....i will agree that some Holleys are crap and dont stay tuned well, but its usually the OEM models that act that way...ive been running my 780 CFM vacuum secondary for 5 years now and have only rebuilt it once..i havent touched the float level or mixture screws since that rebuild 4 years ago.....all carbs have pro's and con's, my choice will always be Holley though....

you can always buy a carb. rebuild kit for 20 bucks at napa
I recommend a new electric choke spring/housing kit. They work great, and you can leave the truck warm up on cold days instead of fiddling with the manual choke. I had two settings for my 2150: Fall/winter, and spring/summer. I never had to mess with it any other time. I have a manual choke Edelbrock 1605, which is an awesome carb, but the manual choke is a pain.
Sorry in advance for my lack of knowledge.I have a similar situation to budinindy.i have 77 f150 ranger 4x2 w/ 302 2bbl carb.the carb needs work and from reading this thread i take it that the motorcraft 2150 is the stock carb ??If not any help would be apprerciated.also any tips for the untrained eye on exactly what carb is on mine i think it is stock as it appears unaltered
on a different note any tips for visually identifying the rearend in my truck i think it is a 9'' thanks in advance
Lots of other problems get blamed on the carb, they include: points out of adjustment on older trucks, fouled spark plugs, low compression, worn camshaft lobes, burned valves, jumped timming chain, bad plug wires, and vacuum leaks, just to name a few. Dont spend good money on bad trouble shooting.GOOD LUCK HUNTING MR_J_DAHMER
look at the screw on the carb to, one of them should have a little metal tag attached give us the numbers and we can help
the 2150 is a stock carb but not stock on all models but prolly in your case, or maybe the 2100 is pretty much identical to the 2150 it either one of them or possibly a 7200 but doubtful. Also look on the top of it and it will say motorcraft. The best route would be a carb rebuild wich is pretty easy with lots of patience. The kit will come with a complete detailed diagram and instuctions. Be sure that when you do it get 2 cans or carb and choke cleaner and clen everything well. For a beginner like yourself it should take a good half day.
