I have a 95 ford ranger 4 wheel drive extended cab. the open door sensor stick on so that the chime goes on for several minutes before shutting off. It's driving me nuts. How do i fix it or disable it???
The switch is integral to the latch mechanism, and prone to sticking. Spray WD-40 in the latch mechanism on each door, and you should be all set for a while. (Replacing the latch is expensive and the problem will return.)

Last time I purchased the switch it was only about
$15.00 but it is a pain to replace if you have not done one already because you cannot see it. It is done almost exclusively by feel. As suggested, spray the WD-40 in every hole around the fdoor mechanism and into the door lock as well (this will make your locksmith happy). If that doesn't work, spray some more. It will eventually fix it. As Rangerpilot suggested, make sparying down the latches an oil change maintenance item like looking for leaks.
The problem is predominant on the driver's side and my theory is that it is more common with (but not exclusive to) smokers than with non-smokers because smokers are more prone to driving with the window open or slightly open in wet conditions. The smoker part is just a theory and I hve no evidence to back it up.
yes my light does stay on.. sometimes for an hour or more. My neighbor called me at midnight, got me out of bed to tell me my dome light was on.. told him not to worry about it, it would go off shortly. Ok, i'll follow your suggestions.. thank you!!!!!
the problem is fixed! the chime goes off now. the weird thing is that the "door ajar" light still stayed on but i changed out my starter motor today and now the light goes off. I'll never figure this truck out. It's posessed. ) Thanks for your help
I really don't get some of the warning lights. Like door ajar. If the door is closed but not completely shut (ya know what I mean?), it won't come on. And if the door is wide open...well I sure hope you don't need a light to tell you that!
