anything but internals.....

hey everybody whats up. i've got a couple questions. ive got a 91 bronco with a 351w. thanks to some suggestions it has a MSD Blaster coil with Ford 9mm wires, Autolite Double Platinum plugs set at 55 thousandths, timing set at 13 btdc, and a MSD cap and rotor. i also have a flex fan. and a idler pully to replace the nonworking A/C. What else can i do to give it more power......i'm talking bolt on's or anything except internal engine work. i'm thinking about adding a MSD ignition box.....good idea or no? if it is a good idea then which one? ive looked at both the 6A and the 6AL. i'm also thinking about this K&N intake http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...e=1344&ptset=A any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I just unhooked my 6A, and noticed no difference without it there. I wouldn't spend the money on the box, but the coil isn't a bad idea. I did a tune up with the MSD cap and rotor, FMS 9mm wires, and Blaster TFI coil, and mileage went from about 11 or 12 to close to 15 (this was 5 years ago soon after I bought the truck). I added the 6A box later, and didn't really notice a difference. I got it used for dirt cheap, so I felt like it was worth seeing if it would do anything. It's not worth buying one new, that's for sure, especially not for a stock engine.

I don't really find that bolt-ons are a great way to go...

The only real way to make power is to start getting into head, cam, intake, exhaust changes.

A lot of the bolt-ons are expensive for what you get for power increases.

If power is what you want, you need to give a call to AFR, or air flow research. they bolted their heads on a 302 EFI HO and gained almost 100hp. they are expensive though. about 1100 dollars.

ok then...would an aftermarket throttle body be a good investment? so the K&N intake is a good idea or no? the truck has a 8.8" rear end with 3.55 gears. would a rear end swap be worth it if i could get one for cheap? if so what gear ratio should i look for?

Ain't gonna get much of anything out of a throttle body change, or an intake.

Keep the 8.8 rear.

I'd dump the flex fan.

Open element filter, headers, exhaust and underdrive pulleys. A throttle body and aftermarket igntion systems are a waste of money for a stock motor.

I think switching the intake manifold would be the next move...

I'm not a fan of underdrive pulleys....but some are.
