I have volts, tranny, pyro, and oil temp on the A-pillar. I plan on front diff, rear diff, transfer case, and either water temp, air pressure or amps in a 4 gauge overhead pod.
Are these mounted on the fuse panel cover? Ever have any trouble seeing them through the steering wheel? Do you ever hit them with your knees getting in and out?
Yes, on the fuse panel cover.
I'm 6' 02" and I've never hit them with my knee getting in and out. or driving. Its actually not even close.
Same thing with trouble seeing them... Obviously when you are turning, sometimes the solid part of the steering wheel would interfere. But the only time I look at them is when I'm cruising along a straight.
With the angle I sit/look at them, they are easy to see (although you are taking your eyes off of the road a little further then you would to look at the speedo.)
Can anyone tell me where I can tap into the oil system to install my temp probe for the oil temp gauge? Installing an A-Piller pod tomorrow and that's the only info I can not find....
Oil guard makes a billet aluminum oil filter cap that is tapped with an 1/8 npt. The temperature probe will screw right in and be exposed to plenty of hot oil as it is being pumped through the filter. This way, you don't have to risk drilling a hole in the oil pan which could end up leaking. I'll try to post a picture of the piece tomorrow.
I have two on the A pillar and like 17 in the Banks PDA. I really like the A pillar because they are right there to see without having to look away to much.
If you go to oilguard.com and look at the 6.0 liter's bypass system, there is a red billet oil filter cap. This piece can be ordered seperately and works very well with the rest of the oil temp sending unit hardware. Just screw the probe in to the cap and your done.
If you don't want to buy that piece there are a number of different ways to get the probe into the oil on a 6.0, but none as safe as on top of the motor where it won't leak, JMO.
I saw the red cap...just couldn't find the link to order it seperately. In the meantime, I drilled out and tapped the top of the regular oil filter cap and JB Welded the adapter in there...It's a temp job as when I screwed the probe in, I felt it contact a spring loaded "something". Anti-drainback valve maybe???? Anyway it's in and not leaking externally....I'll probably order that red cap when I can find the P/N to order. Thanks for the heads up!
Can anyone honestly say they have used the drivers side handle for anything other than something we might have tried when we were teenagers he he, but when we were teenagers we couldn't afford nice trucks.... How can you drive and hold on to it anyway. Does it get in anyone else's way besides me?
The only problem I have with it, is if I am making a right hand turn by palming the wheel with my left hand. I have nearly broken my ring finger hitting the handle with the tip of my finger as my hand passes it. Ouch.
