Bucket seats and console?

Ok so I don't need my bench seat anymore (no more gf=no more gf and sister to take to school). So I figure...why not get me some bucket seats and a console.

I have a stick shift...so I figure finding the appropriate console will be the toughest part.

Where'd you guys who have done this get your seats/console from? Reference to look at? I was lookin' for Exploders at the boneyard today, found NONE. Just a couple Rangers with the bench seat.

Is everything a direct bolt in? I have no special requests (leather or whatever), I'll take anything that will go in there and look decent.

If anybody could enlighten me, that would be great. Thanks.

I have a frind who has a 93 ranger 4.0 auto pw/pl and the buckets like you find in an explorer of that vintage, appears to be a direct bolt in, so what i am saying is look at some ranger and see if they have the seats you are looking for

'91-'01 Explorer seats bolt in, I got a set of '99 Limited's in my '95. I had to use my seat tracks, but the Explorer seats bolted to my tracks without modifications. I also recently got a console from a '92 Explorer. You'll need a console from a Ranger with factory buckets (rare), or you can get by on the Explorer Console. '91-'94 had the short console, as did '95-'01 Manual Explorers. It took forever to find a console that was in decent condition, but it's well worth the hunt, I love my buckets and console.

I had to drill holes in my floor board to mount the console, but there were indentions already in the floor to tell me where to drill. Factory, console equipped Rangers had studs in the floor. Nuts and Bolts hold mine in well. The Explorer Base and front mounting bracket are slightly different, but it still works in a Ranger.

Ok...so basically...keep tearin' up the boneyard 'til an Exploder or bucket Ranger shows up. Ok sounds like a plan.

Yeah I'm thinkin' the console really may be my only prob. My friend suggested I build a sub box there but I'm really interested in trackin' down one of these consoles, though it may be hard to find.

I'll keep you guys updated, if you see anything that looks good, please let me know.

Explorer seats just bolt in, way no easy for this ol' hard head. I adapted a set of '04 Altima seats to my '04 Edge and I am now building a two-piece console to fit in between them. The first console piece is almost finished and has an oil pressure gauge and a voltmeter, 3 toggle switches and 3 on/off indicator lights. I'll post some pics when I finish.
Your reason for switching to buckets is the loss of a girlfriend? You might want to rethink that unless you are considering the priesthood. At your age, I found out that girls are like busses ..... there is another one coming along soon.

Speaking of seats, I have the seats from my '04 for sale and a guy with a '99 is interested. Does anyone know if the seats from my '04 Edge extended cab will fit a '99?

Dono,
Don't know if your '04 seats will fir a '99 or not.
Ranger Pilot,
I got my leather Explorer seats on Ebay, my floor console from a salvage yard and my overhead console on Ebay. I would check both Ebay and salvage yards.

Lol no I've been wanting the buckets forever, just now I finally have the chance.

I guess I'll keep an eye on eBay. How much should I expect to pay johare?

Please post those pics when you're done dono, those would be cool to see.

I paid $125 for my pair locally. Came complete with power tracks, wiring, and all the stuff for the heat. Mine are perfect and so much more comfortable that the original's.

Only problem with Ebay and seats is that shipping is usually outrageous. Try to find a pair locally, the junkyards are full of late model Explorers.

Yours is...the one I go to (real nice redneck owns it) has NO Exploders and no Rangers with buckets. The only other one near here really won't allow minors in (which is a problem, me being just a tad shy of 17). There's another one I think we're gonna take a look at soon, I've never been to it before, but it looks aight. I'm just not sure if we'll be able to get in.

seats

Hay, where in wylie do you live? I used to live there and my friend and I made the rounds to several junk yards in the area. Maybe I can give ya some more places to check. Also, I have a 93 that I'll probably drive till the wheels fall off, does anyone know if you can just modify the split bench to make the drivers side a bucket seat. I was looking under the seat trying to find out if the extention frame for the middle part is welded or screwed on. I've searched the yards up here in Illinois but have come up with nothing in the way of decient seats, that are affordable. I can do modifications, so is this possible?

I just finished modifying the "60" of a 60-40 split bench in a 91 Ranger. Remove the drivers seat from the truck; remove the seat cover; remove the foam cushion. The steel middle "seat" bracket comes off quick with a Sawzall; the foam extension can be cut off with a steak knife. The seat cover material is a bit of a patch job, but it can cover the "surgery" fairly easily. Reinstall the seat. I bought a plastic car console for $9.00. It looks great, didn't cost much, is much more useful, and I still have the center arm rest to use and bucket seats to boot.

Not a bad way to do it Michigan. I know a couple guys on here who have done that, just hacked the middle part out, now hard at all.

diehardfordguy, if you follow 78 outta downtown Wylie towards Lavon, just past the police station, turn right on Kreymer, in that area. I dunno when you moved, but now there's a Walmart and 78's four lanes all the way through. Runnin' on almost 30K people now. Any help with findin' 'em would be appreciated, biggest trouble is getting me and my friend (both minors) into some of the yards apparently.

We moved before the Walmart went in but we lived across the highway from where it is now. We were on Old Knoll. My friend and I went to a place called U-pick, it think. It is in Dallas towards Arlington. There are a couple of more down there but I don't remember them. Also, there were a couple up on 380 east of McKinney. I don't know if they are still there but I usually had pretty good luck. I don't know when it is but there is a swap meet out at the ballpark in arlington. If you want to check it out I'll talk to my friend in McKinney and find out when it is.

Dang man I live on Sheppard lol. Probably run into you at some point. That'd be cool if you could let me know when it is, I might have to check that out.

I run up to McKinney for flying lessons anyways, so I'll keep an eye out for the ones on 380, might be a hit after all.

Thanks again.
