Hey Wrench what would the mileage be in your Honda be in comparison to the weight ratio of the V10. I am guessing the Honda mileage would be between 8 and 10 if it weighed the same. My 2000 7.3 got 14/15, my 06 V10 gets 10.5/11.5 with 4000 miles on it with the same short trip driving, and gas is 30 cents a gallon less. So will somebody explain to me how I got screwed buying the V10.
I once took the MPG figures for a Honda Civic and compared it to the V10. The trucks weigh 2-3 times as much as the Civic, has the aerodynamic profile of a brick (gotta be 3 times the drag), and gets more than one third the gas mileage?
Sounds like the V10 is more efficient than that Honda 4-cylinder. Lots more. And that's going by EPA figures of 40MPG on the highway, compared to REAL WORLD MPG (empty) for the V10.
wah wah wah. and my little boat makes up for the pick up by only drinking 3 gals a hour running 40 mph across the water. do i care ? i'm still driving a big heavy super duty and love it for what it is . my pick up.
forgot when i had my 69 merc cycoln with a 428 it only got 6 and no one ever complained . dads 64 chevy 230 inch I6 stick station wagon only got 13 and he never complained either.
If I may interject funny thing that happened to me yesterday. Stopped by a used lot hthat pretty much caters to trucks. asked if he had any V10's on the lot and was told "No". "Had two of them awhile back and couldn't give them away. Won't be getting any more". My reply "Then why all the 5.4's?" His reply, "Better engine for the size and weight of the truck." We were talking about the F250/F350 series. My next question, "Got any 6.0L PSD's?" His reply, "The ones we have are all 7.3, too many problems with the 6.0 and people are steering clear of them." Gave him my business card and said to call me when he gets in a V10 (Just checking for a response).
I am convined that if I am going to test drive onw of these beasts I am going to have to flag down one of the power company, cable company or plumbing company drivers and bribe him for a test drive/ride in one. These comanys run large truck fleets and there is a definite reason why they are all making the switch to the V10. Could it possibly be that the operational cost is much lower for the same capability from a V10 powered work truck is better than the diesel (tounge in cheek)?
I my searchs of Ford dealers in a thirty mile radius has yielded a boat load of PSD/5.4 machines in stock, but zero V10's.
Also, went to the D'max site and found that the new lbz is getting routinely 6-8 mpg towing 7-10K and only 13-16 empty. Ford V10 - no brainer. Sorry for the rant, but some? of it is meant as funny reading
Well, I missed what happened to you Charlie, but I'm glad things are getting better!
I have no complaints about the mileage in our V10 X, it actually gets better mileage than my 87 Burb smallblock, and of course has MUCH more power!
I do find it funny though, when we tell friends about our new truck. Most of them comment "man, that thing is going to drink some gas". Um, yeah, ya think?
Honestly, the only thing I researched on fuel mileage was how well the PSD did compared to the V10. With diesel priced the way it is nowadays, it's actually cheaper to run a gas engine. After a week of ownership, I'm sold on the V10. Did the plugs and boots today, as well as the serp belt, oil change (dealer put on a crappy filter), flushed the brake fluid, and diagnosed a bad backup sensor all in less than 3 hours. This thing is a joy to work on, and I can't wait to get my own. The one we just bought is my wife's, and I hardly ever get the keys.
hi bob
i hope you did as we all have said with those plugs.inch pound torqe wrench and never seize. man 3 hours you flew though it like a old dealer line tech that knows the short cuts. good luck with the truck and that bseg you have owning one.
gas milage man are some people out of touch with realilty . i was just jokeing with art about the milage some of our muscle cars got . my 428 merc. cyclon in 69 that got 6 and no one complained . heck back then if you got 17 out of a inline six it was good.
and yes the guys who talk about the old 460 and mpgs of that bad boy.our v10's match and even bet that one.

Yep, used the antiseize and tq wrench, just like you all told me to.
I did fly through it, because I got the help I needed here, and it was pretty darn cold out today, with a snowstorm threataning any minute. I work a lot faster when I'm freezing my behind off, and waiting to get snowed upon.
come on down here! the plow just did my drive for the 4th time and it's still comeing down. plus i have heat in my 2 car garage.only a big 75k hot air space heater but in a hour your down to a tee shirt.
thats beer time when my bother is here ." i think he wakes up with one" , he's a bud man all the way 1/2 keg cooler in his kitchen. looks like a counter top the way it's built in

Captchas, My humble apologies on the reply. Glad to hear that the first part is over and that you are feeling better. Hope the next four go well. Had knee surgery(second time) and an ankle rebuild. Would like to be able to walk semi normal again, so I know somewhat how you feel.
