Ever since I bought my 250SD I have been getting shocked everytime I get out and go to close the door. These are not just little shocks you get when you get static shock, these hurt. Closed the door with the hand I was holding a coffee with,it hurt so bad I dropped my coffee. Everyone who has been in my truck complains about it. has this ever happened to anyone here?
Sure it happens sometimes. They make grounding gizmo's that drag on the ground to discharge the static charge, Sometimes if you have fluffy seat covers that doesn't help.
I hate getting shocked by static, so I have trained myself to grab the metal frame of the door before my feet hit the ground. I do notice that my truck zaps more than most other vehicles.
I do exactly what Booker said above... Just touch the metal part of the door as your open it... I do it in all cars as one of my pet peeves is letting the door fly open and bounce on the end of the hinges *shudders at the thought* It also prevents accidental openings into other objects (cars, pylons etc) Don't get shocked when I do this... If I don't for some reason... Ouch.
I had this problem on the wife's jeep. Posted this in another thread a few months back. Someone suggested a dryer fabric softner on the seat. I tried it and am convinced that it works. Have not had 1 single shock since. It must have something to do with the seat fabric, but I don't know what it is.
...for what it's worth.
that's hilarous cuda, I have the same feeling about letting the doors bounce on the hinges. My wife think's it's stupid. It's like fingernails on a blackboard for me too.
mc, my girlfriend just doesn't get it... I have to cringe everytime she gets in and she looks up with that "what" look on her face and then it quickly changes to "oh sorry... i know you hate that" Drives me up a wall... So whenever I can, I make sure to park on a slope so the pass. side or the whole truck is facing uphill... lol... call my crazy
i have not had a car or truck yet that has not in cold weather. both with cloth and leather.
art got a feeling about your post its called "correct" seems that is what happens they age and it gone.

Maybe it's some kind of coating that wears off.
And yeah, both my '96 t-bird and '97 Cougar did it, and they have leather, my '01 SD has cloth.
I haven't been shocked by my '01 for about 3 years now... at least until I took off the front brakes
