Hello. The passenger side lights on my 78 Bronco are giving me some problems. With the lights off, the turn signals and brake lights work fine. When I turn the lights on, the passenger side brake light is stuck on, and none of the other lights will work. The front marker light doesn't come on, and the turn signal no longer works. Both of the side marker lights work just fine. I have checked all the bulbs and grounds, which are all good. Also, all the switches are new since I just finished rebuilding the truck. Anyone have any suggestions for what will fix this problem? Thanks.

Try replacing the passenger side front parklamp socket. My parents 76 did the same thing on the drivers side and that ended up being the problem. It also caused the blinker indicator in the dash to turn on with the lights.
Thanks for the tip on the socket. My dash ligt is also on for that side when the lights are on. Would that have any effect on the brake light as well? The socket is new and looked good, but it is easy enough to change. Thanks.

LAST EDITED ON 19-Mar-01 AT 00:44 AM (EST)[p]I don't think it effected the brake light but I'm not sure. Try taking the bulb out and turn the lights on. If you replaced the rear socket you may have the tail light current running through the brake light side. You could also check this by having someone watch the brake lights when you press the brake pedal. If the passenger appears dimmer it could be the problem.
I had crazy problems similar to what you describe. It was resolved by replaceing two of my bulb sockets. I had a tester. It was a sharp probe that you could poke through insulation with and a ground wire w/ alligator clip. I determined that the wireing was doing what it was suppose to be doing right up to the socket. When in Help section of autoparts store, if you find you need a socket, I found two styles labeled for Ford. One style extends the bulb out, you don't want that one it puts the bulb into the lense. I think the kind I got also was labeled for Chryslers and AMC or something like that. After replaceing the sockets, everything was fine. Just remember that on the rear's The brake filiment is a brighter filiment than the taillight. If you reverse those, then at night, when you put on the brake, it doesn't get brighter. Same w/ the front parking lights, the turn signal filiment (both front's and rear) are brighter than parking lights. Good luck
Hey, thanks for the help everyone. It turned out that it was the sockets, both of which were less than 6 months old. Now I just have to wait until that e-brake cable comes in and I'll be able to get a valid inspection sticker on the truck. Thanks again.
