OK, I admitted it, I have no clue. I am perplexed over air filters. In a previous post I was referred a website that carries Wix filters the part # is 46637. I have a 2000 PSD. The question I have is there a housing that holds the filter? If not, how does it attached? Below is a picture of the filter.
Mine is a 2000, and I just stretched the stock tube right over the end and clamped it. Make sure the surfaces are clean and dry so it doesn't pop off. Mine's been on for about 9000mi with no problems.
No housing, it just sits there but due to the size, it's wedged in there to the point that there is very little or no movement. A lot of us using the Kwik filter have choosen to use a short piece of 4" exhaust tubing and a 4 1/2-4 3/4" constant torque clamp to hold the filter to the 4" tube. I prefered this way so as to not worry about the filter "popping" off.
My set-up looks exactly like Guzzle's pic - I tried but there was NO way I could get the stock part stretched over the filter head! My short 4" pipe was a TIGHT fit in the filter - I had to tap it in with a hammer - and I would bet that I won't get it out when it comes time for a filter change.
I got my 6637 sent to my office as I do with everything that is shipped to me. It's been sitting here on my desk all day waiting to go home and be installed this weekend. I'll tell you one thing, it was worth the $20 just to see the reaction on people's faces when they see it. Everyone that comes in just looks at it and says WTF is that for? When I tell them it's for my truck, they can't believe it.
Better air flow, better sound, better sealing, and some entertainment as well. Seems like a great mod! I look forward to getting it in there.
ok, here's a question though. Does the stock airbox separate somewhere around there to keep the part the holds the battery, or should I plan on having to cut the unused section out?
mine had a seam that seperated with some snaps, and a couple of screws in the bottom. undid hte screws, and the snaps and left the battery box, and the cold air part upto the grill intact.
You'll be removing a total of four little bolts. The temp sensor is undone with a quarter-turn, then zip-tied to something out of the way, NOT disconnected. Then, lift out the bottom of the filter box. Put the filter back into the box, put the four bolts into a baggie and snap the lid on it again.
Then, set the whole thing on a shelf in your garage, where it will remain forever, if you're anything like me.
Well I thought about putting mine on the shelf but this isn't so expensive of an item I would ever consider taking it back off if I ever sell the truck (and the way things look in the new truck market thats a big if) and I know I never will go back to the stock filter again so it's in my scrap pile because you never know when you are going to need a piece of plastic for something your trying to fabricate. I hate throwing stuff away I might find a use for it.
Are you kidding me? Sledhauler, where did you get one of those for $20. At that price i need to get about 5 or so.

The shipping is a little high for one unit, but if you buy a few it's very well worth it. I get oil, fuel and air filters at the same time.
