New cab corners rusting
I installed new cab corners and floor panels about a year ago on my 60 F-100 and left them untreated. They're beginning to pick up surface rust sitting in the garage. What can I do to stop the rust until it's time to prime?

priming even with a spray can will help if the garage isn't very damp, but primer is porous and can rust thru, so a primer/sealer or just a light coat of cheap spray paint (top coat not primer) without primer is better than plain primer alone IMHO. It's easy to remove the paint later with sandpaper or a surface prep disk before giving the panel a better paint job. Alway protect bare metal as soon as possible, just touching it with bare hands will promote rusting.
PS: 3M surface prep disks from the auto paint store (looks like plastic steelwool) is also a good way to remove the surface rust without removing metal.

In the body shop we used to prep, prime, then clear coat if it was going to be more than a couple of days before we did the paint, especially if the owner was going to drive around in primer..We just sanded off the clear, into the good quality primer before painting. I'm in Oregon, rain/moisture is always an issue here!
