Bypass Oil Filter System?

Hey all you guys out there rackin up those miles, I was wondering what your personal thoughts/experiences are with bypass oil filter systems. I was reading in a magazine I got about the FS-2500 bypass filter and they claim you can possibly make your oil change intervals at 30,000 miles instead of 3,000 or 6,000, etc. I was considering the thought, but as always, I wanted to give this one a ride on the forum. Hope to hear good feedback! If you guys want to check out the site its www.fs2500.com.

I think enough of oil bypass filtration that I put one on my truck.

I'm getting good lab reports from Blackstone, though I have NO INTENT of pushing my oil past 8 to 10 thousand miles AT MOST!

That's not to say that bypass systems won't let you go 25,000 miles on an oil change, but I won't try it with my engine.

My B164 Baldwin will likely take the place of only one oil change, so payback won't be for a coupla' years or more. But, cleaner oil is the purpose, not saving oil change money.

Pictures in my gallery.

I've neen curious about the fs2500 also since I saw some ads for it. Their website has some pretty interesting demonstrations of the filter. Has anyone called to find out the price? They dont tell you on the website..

I don't know their prices, but I'm a little leery of the FS systems. Not sure why exactly, but the gut feeling is to stay away from them. Maybe high prices has something to do with it.

I'm very happy with my Oil Guard filter on my truck.

I have the fs2500 and at 13000 mi.on the oil I got a bad report so i disconnected it. Filters are high, every used oil sample sent in showed a steady climb in wear mumbers. My best uoa was before i installed the unit. cant speak for other systems.
for me now i just use a synthic oil filter and reg dino oil, change oil and filter at 6000 mi. uoi show's this is fine for my habits.
132,000 mi now on the clock.

I am happy with my oilguard..one of our sponsors (see left margin links).. It is a great unit for a great price, around $200.. easy to install and the filters are not expensive either.. they also have oil testing.. just my 02 cents..

I just recently switched from delo 400 to Shell synethic 5w-40 and noticed a big difference when cold.. no loping at all.. it use to lope since new.. I will change the syn oil every 6000, changing the engine filter at 3000 and a new by-bypass filter at 6000.. i really don't put that many miles per year on the engine.. Someone putting over 12 thou could go probably every 10 thou on changing the oil. Of course, i will get my oil check'd by oilguard periodically.

I run the fs2500 system with amsoil marine 15-40 and have no qualms about it. I dont use the oil sampling at this point in time. My friend uses the 2500 on his KW and is happy with it. I suppose its a matter of preferrece.

I reasearched several bypass systems before I finally decided on the Oil Guard. But, like bilder said, it sometimes boils down to a matter of preference. As long as you go with a good quality unit, that has a good history, you should be fine.

For oil, again, it's a lot of preference. I run a full synthetic 5W-40 all year long, usually Mobil, but I will occasionally use Rotella synthetic if I can't get the Mobil Delvac.

Oil Guard installed for a couple of years, running synthetic 5w-40 Rotella and 3 Blackstone reports a year. Everything is at or below norms for my mileage.
AIS dropped Silicon levels as well.

In the past I've seen a by-pass with a roll of single-ply toilet paper as a filter. The Army used something similar for their light trucks in desert deployments. Anyone know about that type?

If they work, the filters are cheap.

It's the motorguard filter, found here: http://www.bypassfilter.com/index.htm

PSNut's very happy with the motorguard he has, but I don't know if he has the oil filter by them or not. I know he's got the fuel filter though.
