2001 Ford F250 with Multiple Problems- Please HELP!!!
I have a 2001 Ford F250 with gas engine and automatic trans. Last night I drove 25 miles home (not towing anything) with no problem. The truck sat parked for about 4 hours, and then I drove through my field up a hill. I unloaded my dogbox and went to back up and the backup lights didn't work. Then I noticed the TCIL light that indicates the OD is off was flashing. that is the first time it has done that. I drove the truck back down the hill and parked it. I tried to re-start the truck and it does absolutely nothing when I turn the key. No sounds, no nothing. What is wrong??? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for your reply. I'm afraid I know almost nothing about the inner workings of my truck. When I check the fuses, should I just be checking the ones in that are accessible from the cab of the truck or are there more? Thanks again for your help.
Does your Truck have battery power at all ? If not...start w/ the battery. I know that the Transmission shift points are controlled by the battery, that's where I would start, hope it helps. Does your Starter Solenoid make a clunk sound when u go to start it ? try turning you igintion on if you have power, leave the key there....take a pair of jumper cables off your battery and ground the black on your starter, and put the positive on the power lead of your starter, then jump the igition lead to the power w/ a screwdriver. Hard to tell what's goin off if I'm not there w/ the problem so I'm just throwin ideas at ya, good luck.
Since the OD light was flashing, there's a code stored in the truck's computer. If you had that code it would help a lot. A Ford specific OBDII scan tool is needed to read the code.
All of the things you mention involve the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS.) It's mounted on the driver's side of the transmission, where the shifter cable attaches. It is the sensor that has a wiring harness plugged in. It controls the backup lights and also prevents the starter from operating unless the trans is in park or neutral. If it fails it will set a code that flashes the OD light, it can disable the backup lights, and it can keep the starter from operating. I think the TRS either died or is unplugged.

Do the headlights work? Is the battery dead? Is your alt bad? Maybe
You said no lights or buzzers. chimes etc. Maybe your batt was going dead.
I would think you might have had something hit the the switch mounted on the transmission.Where the shifter connects there is a neutral /park safety sw it may have gotten hit buy a branch or rock going through the field or the wiring to it may have got caught on something.

Thank you to everybody for the great advice. It was the wiring to the safety switch mentioned by fortyfords. All I had to do was plug it back in and all is well. Thanks again to everyone for the help!!
